2004-02-26 - 6:27 a.m. While looking for a photo to accompany yesterday’s entry, I was reminded of another opportunity that my kite flying hobby afforded me: I flew kites inside the Hindenburg hanger in Lakehurst, NJ. Indoor flying is done with kites that are made of such ultra-light material that the apparent wind of just walking backwards is enough wind to fly it. There is a growing crisis in Haiti right now. France is calling for an international police action, but wants a United Nations resolution before it gets involved. President Bush should come out and say, “Y’all think that I should have deferred to the U.N. in Iraq? Fine. Let’s let the U.N. handle Haiti. Let’s see what a good job they do with a small, isolated island.” Heh. Haiti will burn to the ground while the U.N. passes 50 resolutions telling them to stop… or else! I’ve touched on this before, but allow me to be specific: Leave the Constitution alone. We don’t need an amendment defining marriage. And we certainly don’t need to change it just so Ah-nold can run for President! I’m pretty sure that that is exactly the thing that the founding fathers tried to guard against… a foreign-born leader taking over by the cult of personality. Arnold doesn’t seem like a threat, and is probably a nice guy, but change the Constitution for him? No. My biggest gripe about the gay marriage controversy in San Fransisco is quickly becoming the lawlessness of it. I don’t like the precedent they are setting for protesting and changing unpopular laws. They claim they are exercising civil disobedience. This is how civil disobedience used to go: 1. Law is stupid.A mayor and a court suddenly calling “Olly olly oxen freee!” and inviting people to break the law is not civil disobedience, it’s dereliction of duty. I hope the next law that the mayor decides shouldn’t apply isn’t the one against embezzlement of public funds. As a citizen of San Francisco, I would be worried about a mayor who is coming up with new interpretations of laws. Listening to: %%option1%%Watching: %%option2%% Drinking: %%option3%% |
