2004-02-09 - 7:58 p.m. It’s been busy lately. For the last two weeks, I’ve been pretty lazy and had a bad attitude. I did a lot of procrastinating. Over the weekend, it caught up with me, mentally. On Saturday, I had nightmares about the things that I’ve been putting off. It wasn’t pleasant. Since then, I’ve been trying to catch up. For the next couple days I’m going to be getting up an hour early to get stuff done. Things find their way into my dreams very easily. I often dream about things that have been worrying me, or things I just saw. Which is the main reason I don’t watch horror movies. If I watch a violent movie, I have violent dreams, and that’s not restful. The other day I watched an episode of Forensic Files about a farm couple that killed homeless drifters. Sure enough, that night I had a dream that my mother was missing and I was searching for her on a farm, and I just knew that something horrible had happened. Once, after watching a couple episodes of the A-Team, I had a dream that featured a lot of automatic weapons. And even though nobody ever got hit, hundreds of rounds were fired and it was intense. I’ll still watch some A-Team though. I love it when a plan comes together. I can get sucked in by a marathon of old TV shows. And speaking of getting sucked in, you know how there are just some shows and movies that, no matter how many times you’ve seen them, you just have to watch it? C’mon, everybody has ‘em. Movies that, if you pass them on the dial, you know you’re going to end up watching them to the end. They’re probably cheesey, not something you’d go see in the theater. But they’re a remote magnet on the small screen. A guilty pleasure. Mine right now is Down Periscope. A truly mindless, predictable, comedy full of B-list actors and Rip Torn. But I love it. I wouldn’t buy it on DVD, but I’ll watch it every time USA plays it. If I stumble across it, I’m sucked in. Over the weekend I saw a promo for it (coming up next!), and I quick turned off the TV. I knew if I let it start, I would be stuck on the couch. Another movie that has that effect is Independence Day. It’s a better movie, to be sure, than Down Periscope. I’ve seen the ending of that movie about 5 or 7 times. Never the beginning. I’ve never seen the start of Independence Day. I guess the aliens blow some shit up. I don’t know, and may never find out. It’s not something that I sit down wanting to watch, but if I come in on a Will Smith or Jeff Goldblum scene, I get sucked right in. If they’re already in the spaceship? Forget it. “I ain’t heard no fat lady!” I missed part of the Super Bowl thanks to FOX counter-programming that movie. Alright, that’s enough. I need to get doing something. Didn’t you hear? I’m busy. P.S. Go over and give some love to %%diary-unclebob%%. He says that he lost his job, and I’m about 95% sure it’s not a joke.
